Chris Davies - President and Independent Board Member
General Manager: Remuera Golf Club
In 2002 I graduated with a BA Hons Leisure Management Degree and took my first managers post as a Golf Manager with a Local Authority in North Wales in 2004. Since that time I have continued to work in Golf Club Management.
Five years later, I progressed onto a private members Club in North Norfolk, as Secretary for Sheringham Golf Club and three years later became General Manager of Ferndown Golf Club, Dorset on the South Coast of England. I remained here until emigrating with my family to New Zealand in 2007.
During my time in the UK I was an active member of the GCMA (Golf Club Managers Association UK) and was regularly involved in regional meetings both in Norfolk and Wessex regions, while also attending National Events.
In 2008 I was appointed General Manager of Remuera Golf Club, Auckland and still remain in this post today.
I was voted onto the GMA Executive in 2011 and was tasked with reviewing the Education Portfolio. I believe we are making some excellent progress in this area. I am looking to continue making a positive contribution to the Association and the Golf Industry and care passionately about golf and its future.
I have young family, one son aged 9 and one daughter aged 3 and spent most of my time with them and my wife outside of golf club management. I have been a single figure golfer most of my life and enjoy most sports. But most importantly I keenly support Liverpool and follow Wales in rugby with a passion.

General Manager: Clearwater Resort
Golf has been part of my competitive, corporate and recreational life for as long as I can remember.
From playing at Christchurch's Ascot Par 3 and Rawhiti public courses as a kid to caddying at Shirley (to earn the right to play after the men), before membership at clubs around the world I was always a big user of golf a sport that brings people together in the simplest sense. The handicap system is an amazing leveler where ever your travel and who ever we play with.
My experience from 20+ years in investment banking showed me how golf is a deal maker, a level playing field: the best outcome you can buy is a round of beers and the worst is a round a of gins (oh, the shame). In my club management role, I face the same challenges as a 5-star hotel manager - there are returning guests (members) and one time marketing opportunities (visitors). How will they rate us. Will they renew their memberships or recommend us to their friends. Every day brings fresh individual challenges and rewards for our entire team - everyone is front of house.
The biggest challenge is to maintain the relevance of the CLUB (group of people) and the respect of the COURSE (the place we play) at a fair price for the TARGET MARKET.
THE GMANZ gives us all the chance to learn how to face these challenges by sharing our knowledge and experience. I am fully supportive of all of the GMANZ education and technology initiatives.
